When people think about losing weight, they think about going on a diet. The word diet often has a negative connotation. Diet is often perceived as a period of food restriction, that is, starving to lose weight. Many people go through periods of frustration when they go on restrictive diets that they cannot sustain in the long run.
How many clients show up at the nutrition consultation, when they have tried everything to lose weight, but then put weight back! You need to understand the meaning of diet. The definition of a diet is the consideration of foods and beverages taking into account their quality, composition and their health effects. Diet is the selection of foods, prescribed to improve an individual's condition or prevent or treat an illness ”. In this definition, the word hunger or food restriction is not mentioned! Rather, food selection and consideration of food and drink in order to prevent or treat a disease. Losing weight requires a lot of work in terms of mentality, planning and dedication. It takes daily focus, planning meals in advance, and realizing that losing weight is not a quick process. There will be weeks that you will lose more weight than others, and this is completely normal. What matters is to continue always! Over time, you will adopt healthy eating habits, part of your daily routine. And this is when you realize that eating healthy should be for the rest of your life and not just for losing weight. The benefits of weight loss go far beyond the numbers of the scale, but benefits in all aspects of your life, increased self-esteem, gained confidence, better health and quality of life.
